The Oakland Raiders tasted victory in their first game under new head coach Jon Gruden. They managed to defeat the Detroit Lions in their preseason opener, but figure to face a more difficult test when they play the Los Angeles Rams in their second preseason game on Saturday (1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET, NFL Network).

You can watch the live stream of the game on NFL gamepass.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is expected to play more than one series against the Rams. One position to watch is at running back, where Doug Martin is trying to earn a roster spot, but is in a tight battle with three others, including undrafted free agent Chris Warren III. Gruden isn’t happy about having to face the Rams Saturday night and then open the regular season against the Rams in three weeks. Don’t expect either team to reveal too much.

The Raiders are likely to be without linebacker/edge Khalil Mack, who has not reported to camp in a contract dispute.

The Rams are also going to be without their top defensive player in defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who hasn’t reported to camp in a contract dispute. Starting quarterback Jared Goff is expected to play briefly, but many eyes will be on Sean Mannion. The backup the past two seasons, the former Oregon State star is in battle after a poor performance in the preseason opener. He was outplayed by Brandon Allen and another poor performance by Mannion could spell big trouble for him.

You can get the latest score and stats from the game in the box score provided above and here’s everything you need to know in order to watch the Raiders-Rams game:The Oakland Raiders will play their second preseason game on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Rams in Los Angeles. The Rams will be the first opponent for the Raiders in the regular season, so expect a “vanilla” gameplan from both sides in this contest.

Jets vs Lions Live

Jets – Lions Live {Week 1} | Nfl Football Game Hd Game Online : The Sam Darnold era begins Monday night as his New York Jets travel to the Motor City to face the Detroit Lions at 7:10 p.m. Before you lock in any Jets vs. Lions picks, you need to see the results from the SportsLine Projection Model. The model makes NFL picks after simulating the games 10,000 times and went 48-34 on its top-rated picks last year. $100 bettors who followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

Jets vs Lions Live

Now, the model has analyzed all key components of this matchup, crunched the numbers and generated a strong point-spread selection that hits in nearly 60 percent of simulations. We can tell you the model is leaning toward the under, but its more-confident pick is against the spread, saying you can bank on one side in almost 60 percent of simulations.

Who: New York Jets at Detroit Lions

Time: 7:10 p.m. ET, Monday, Sept. 10th

Field: Ford Field, Detroit

The model knows the Lions went 9-7 for the second year in a row, then fired coach Jim Caldwell, and installed Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia for the job. He inherits a Lions D that ranked 21st in points allowed and 27th in yards allowed.

Detroit’s offense did its job last season, ranking seventh in the NFL at 25.6 points per game. Matthew Stafford passed for 4,446 yards (third-most in the NFL), 29 TDs and 10 INTs. His two top-flight WRs are also back in Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, each of whom had more than 1,000 yards receiving in 2017.

For the most part, Stafford hasn’t had the luxury of having a run game to rely on, but the Lions hope they did something about it this off-season by signing LeGarrette Blount from the Eagles and drafting Kerryon Johnson from Auburn.

But just because the Lions have plenty of firepower doesn’t mean they’ll cover on Monday Night Football. In fact, they Jets have improved so much after a terrific off-season that a playoff berth is a goal.

When Darnold, 21, takes the first snap of the Jets’ season, he’ll be the youngest starting QB since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. It will also mark the 11th consecutive season that a rookie has started in Week 1.

The Jets traded up to snag the USC product with the No. 3 overall pick. He’ll take over an offense that ranked 28th last season but returns WR Robby Anderson (941 yards, seven TDs) and gets back electric wideout Quincy Enunwa, who missed all of 2017 with a neck injury.

Arkansas State vs Alabama

Arkansas State vs Alabama: On Saturday, Arkansas State travels to Tuscaloosa to take on the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide. Here is everything you need to know before watching Saturday’s game. click here

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s season started off hot by rolling past the Louisville Cardinals 51-14 in their opener, but the lopsided victory didn’t end without some controversy. After the game, Nick Saban was asked by ESPN’s Maria Taylor about whether Tua Tagovailoa or Jalen Hurts had secured the starting quarterback position, which caused Saban to respond in frustration by stating:

“Well, I still like both guys, I think both guys are good players. I think both guys can help our team, all right? So why do you continually try to get me to say something that doesn’t respect one of them? I’m not going to. So quit asking.”

If this response was intended to lay the issue to rest, it obviously backfired on Saban who later apologized for his response. Tagovailoa finished this game with an impressive stat line, going 12-16 for 227 yards and two touchdowns while adding 26 yards and another score on the ground. Hurts, on the other hand, went 5-of-9 for 70 yards, with no touchdowns, while adding only nine yards on the ground.
Alabama opened the season with a 51-14 win over Louisville. In week two, Alabama returns home to Bryant-Denny Stadium to host Arkansas State of the Sun Belt Conference. AL.com’s Lauren Sisler and WJOX’s Jim Dunaway highlight some of the biggest storylines coming out of week one and make their predictions for this matchup. Lauren and Jim are also handing out some sideline swag to notable players, coaches, and units in this episode of Head to Head. Alabama and Arkansas State kickoff at 2:30pm CT.

Miami vs LSU

Miami vs LSU :  finish off a great weekend of football with a bang, in what should be a defense heavy slugfest in Arlington.

Of all the great games this weekend, there may not be one that I’m more excited for than Miami vs. LSU on Sunday night. It’s a top 25 matchup, between two teams that are usually extremely fun to watch, loaded with exciting players and storylines. What more could you want from a Week 1 game?

It may be a bit lower scoring than most would like, but these defenses going to work will be delightful, and the overall talent level is so high that this should be a fantastic way to end the weekend and help kick off the college football season.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 2
Time: 7:30 p.m. EST
Location: Arlington, TX
Venue: AT&T Stadium
TV: ABC
Live Stream: WatchESPN
Players to watch

There are certainly questions about the two offenses in this one, mainly because of quarterback issues both teams had last year, but in terms of skill position talent, and the matchups at those skill positions, there’s no game more intriguing this weekend. Miami has receivers Ahmon Richards, Jeff Thomas and Lawrence Cager, going up against LSU’s excellent defensive backfield led by Greedy Williams and Kristian Fulton. On the other side of the coin, Jonathan Giles will look to establish himself against Michael Jackson and the turnover-hungry Miami backfield.
LSU

Joe Burrow, QB
Jonathan Giles, WR
Rashard Lawrence, DE
Devin White, LB
Greedy Williams, CB

Miami

Malik Rosier, QB
Travis Homer, RB
Ahmon Richards, WR
Michael Jackson, CB
Sheldrick Redwine, S

LSU key to victory

If LSU wants to win this game, they’ll probably have to do it with an opportunistic defense. Malik Rosier is prone to mistakes, and if LSU can take advantage, it’ll give them a much-needed boost. I don’t see LSU moving the ball much on this Miami defense, but having the ball more, and being in great field position would make things a lot easier. If Joe Burrow ends up being awesome, that would help even more, but I don’t think they can bank on that.
Miami key to victory

Miami needs to trust their running attack. LSU is breaking in five new starters in their front seven, and Travis Homer should have room to run if the new faces struggle early with the speed of the game. LSU’s pass defense is probably too good to expect much from Malik Rosier, but he’s also a capable runner, so I wouldn’t hate to see a heavy option attack from Miami in this game. Put some stress on the new end Breiden Fehoko, and the two new edge players on this LSU defense.

CLEMSON — For more than eight months, Clemson has waited for what is coming Saturday.

At last, the Clemson football team can get back onto the field after dropping a Sugar Bowl matchup to Alabama in dramatic fashion in January. At last the deepest team of Dabo Swinney’s career can start to prove whether it is worthy of the glamorous headlines it has received all summer.

And at last, freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence will play in the first collegiate game of his career.

There is a lot to unpack from this 2018 Clemson football team, one that has no shortage of storylines headed into a season that will be considered a disappointment if competing for a national championship is not in the cards.

That initiative starts Saturday with Furman, a team Clemson is expected to handle with no issues.

Here are four key factors for Clemson in Saturday afternoon’s season debut at Death Valley.
Furman’s efficiency

Furman’s offense should be no problem for Clemson’s esteemed defense under coordinator Brent Venables, but Furman coach Clay Hendrix likes to play fast, which dates back to his Air Force Academy days. Last season, Furman led the Southern Conference in the following categories: scoring offense, touchdowns scored, total offensive plays, total offensive yards, average yards per play, total touchdowns and passing efficiency, among others.
Tigers’ quarterback play

Furman’s passing defense was just sixth best in the Southern Conference a season ago. That’s good for Clemson, which is going to use Saturday to evaluate its quarterbacks on a different level now that they will actually be live against a different opponent.

Kelly Bryant, the senior incumbent, will start the game and will be followed by Lawrence. Lawrence, known for his arm, could have a field day if the Paladins are no match for his ball placement. This would also be a perfect game for Bryant to prove he has improved with his own deep balls, as he says he has.
Kicking game

Clemson redshirt senior Greg Huegel has won his starting kicking job back, but will only be doing field goals and extra points. Kickoff duties belong to freshman B.T. Potter. How will Potter handle the big stage and is Huegel going to be able to live up to his decorated past?
The trenches

Furman led the Southern Conference last year in the trenches as the Paladins’ defense had the most sacks of anyone in the league and the Paladins’ offense relinquished the fewest. Clemson’s defensive line speaks for itself with 100 percent of the starters returning. But Clemson’s offensive line? They’re out for some redemption after a lackluster performance against Alabama.
Prediction

Clemson 56, Furman 7

Texas State vs Rutgers football Game at High Point Solutions Stadium, Piscataway, NJ on Saturday. Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs Texas State Bobcats will be part of college football’s opening weekend.

Can Rutgers, as a 16-point favorite, win convincingly in its season opener against Texas State? In order to do so, players such as Art Sitkowski, Raheem Blackshear, Bo Melton and Deonte Roberts will need to step up.

Given what has transpired in college football over the past month, the start of the 2018 season can’t get here soon enough. Fortunately, the first big weekend is only five days away, when a handful of matchups between nationally ranked teams will start providing some clues about which squads might be in contention for the four spots in the College Football Playoff.

Check out the live GameTrax for the Texas State Bobcats at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights game on Sep 1, 2018. As we prepare for Week 1, here’s a look into my crystal ball. Last season, I correctly picked six of eight division winners in the Power 5 conferences and two of five league champions overall.

The Kent State Golden Flashes put a little dash of their own madness into March on Monday night, knocking off Northern Illinois, 61-59, with a buzzer-beating layup. The shot sent Kent State to the MAC tournament quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.

After eight long months the return of college football is finally here. Even Illinois fans — in their third year of a program overhaul — have a little more pep in their step coming in to opening kickoff.

The Fighting Illini are entering the season with a shiny new offensive coordinator who changed the offense at Arizona seemingly overnight and with a new quarterback under center. The question that remains, however, is what do we need to see out of Lovie Smith’s team against Kent State.

Two teams looking to bounce back from ugly two-win seasons face off when Illinois hosts Kent State on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference season opener for both squads. Coach Lovie Smith is in his third year at the helm of the Illini, and he’ll look for his first winning season at the school with a team that has only eight seniors the least of any team in FBS.

One of those seniors will start under center as Smith named AJ Bush Jr. as his quarterback days before the opener. Another player in his final season at Illinois, wide receiver Mike Dudek, is hoping to recapture the form that he had as a freshman (76 catches, 1,038 yards) before injuries limited him to seven games over the last three seasons.

Here are five key matchups in the Texas-Maryland game to keep your eye on Saturday:

1. COLLIN JOHNSON VS. MARYLAND CORNERBACKS

Don’t count the Terrapins among those who think that Johnson underachieved last season. In last year’s meeting — a 51-41 Maryland win — Texas’ 6-6 receiver caught seven passes for 125 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown. Among the Terps defenders are Florida State transfer Marcus Lewis and Tino Ellis, who recorded five pass-breakups in 2017.

EDGE: Texas

2. BYRON COWARD VS. UT’S CALVIN ANDERSON, PATRICK VAHE

Cowart was once the nation’s third-rated recruit in the entire recruiting class of 2015, but the defensive end failed to live up to that billing at Auburn. He ended up at Maryland after spending a year in junior college and he sat out last season. As he attempts to re-establish his reputation, he’ll also try to improve a Terps pass rush that was nearly nonexistent last year. But to do so, he’ll have to get by Anderson (Texas’ left tackle who had 36 career starts at Rice) and Vahe, the left guard with 31 career starts. “He has tremendous potential,” Vahe said of Cowart. “He’s going to be a really great player in the future and I can’t wait to go against him and see what he’s got.”

EDGE: Texas

3. TEXAS’ RUSHERS VS. MARYLAND’S RUSHERS

The five scholarship running backs that returned this season for the Longhorns combined for 886 yards last year. That bested Maryland’s Ty Johnson’s 2017 total by 11 yards. Texas should get a boost with the addition of Cal graduate transfer Tre Watson and freshman Keaontay Ingram. Besides Johnson, Maryland also returns Lorenzo Harrison III (622 yards, 3 TDs last year). The Longhorns ran for 98 yards as a team against Maryland; Johnson and Harrison alone combined for 177 yards.

EDGE: Maryland

4. TODD ORLANDO VS. MARYLAND’S QUARTERBACKS

Both of Maryland’s quarterback options — Tyrrell Pigrome and Kasim Hill — had their 2017 seasons cut short by injuries, but not before they showcased their skills against Texas. The fleet-footed Pigrome burned the Longhorns for 239 total yards before Hill put away the game. Orlando, the architect of the UT defense, saw his unit post good results against six quarterbacks who finished last season ranked among the nation’s top 20 leaders in passing yards. As defensive coordinator, can Orlando scheme his way to containing either player?

EDGE: Texas

5. THE TEXAS LONGHORNS VS. THE ROAD

This isn’t technically a home game for Maryland, which calls Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium its home. Still, the Terps only have to travel 10 miles to FedEx Field while Texas is logging a 1,500-mile road trip. Texas, which is opening a season on the road for only the third time since 1996, has gone 10-16 in games away from Austin since Mack Brown’s departure at the end of the 2013 season. Maryland coach D.J. Durkin is on administrative leave, but six of the 10 games the Terrapins have won since his hire were recorded at home.

EDGE: Maryland

TCU vs Southern-University :  When No. 16 TCU opens its season against Southern University on Saturday morning at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, there will be little doubt about the eventual outcome.

But the Horned Frogs are happy to be able to beat up on someone other than themselves and have plenty to gain from what amounts to a scrimmage that counts and gets them off on the right foot.

The contest is an opportunity to continue the development of sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson, who is the latest in the line of TCU’s dual-threat signal-callers. It’s also a chance for one or two players out of the Horned Frogs’ stable of running backs to announce himself as the No. 1 main option moving forward.

And there’s a chance for monster defensive end Ben Banogu to begin his proliferation of sacks and tackles for a loss, basically using the Jaguars as fodder for the challenges to come the rest of the year.

TCU and Southern are meeting for the first time. The Horned Frogs are facing an opponent from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) for just the third time in their history after defeating Jackson State 63-0 last season and Grambling State 56-0 in their 2012 season opener.

Venerable coach Gary Patterson said Monday that he’s relieved to have his Horned Frogs back on a somewhat normal practice schedule and that his players are ready to get into game action, but they aren’t overlooking Southern.

“We have been banged up,” Patterson said. “I feel a lot better now. … We are tired of hitting each other, excited to play a ball game and get into the season. We’re playing a Southern team I think that does a lot of good things. They do a nice job coaching. They do a lot of things that cause you problems. We’ve taken them very seriously.”

TCU’s offensive line has been one of the biggest questions going into the season as four key contributors from last year’s team are now in NFL camps. But Patterson continued to heap praise on the unit and its work in preseason camp.

“Our offensive line, I’ll be honest, has been the big surprise,” Patterson said. “They’ve really gotten better. We still have to keep getting better at one of the tackles. I won’t say which one.”

Southern made it official and named quarterback John Lampley the starter for the season opener at TCU, coach Dawson Odums announced on Monday.

The move comes with little surprise after Odums named Lampley the front-runner in the three-person race early last week. The 6-foot-2 sophomore from Georgia will get his first career start against the No. 16 team in the country.

“We have three very good quarterbacks,” Odums said. “John is just slightly above those guys from a consistency standpoint and that’s really what we look for out of that quarterback position.”

Southern (which went 7-4 last season) is a traditional powerhouse in the SWAC and in the HBCU ranks in general. Southern couldn’t participate in the SWAC Championship or the Celebration Bowl however, due to NCAA academic progress rate violations.
