The Urban Meyer saga leading into the 2018 football season was full of drama. The Ohio State coach kept his job when it was all over, but he’s suspended for three games to start the season. That’s why Meyer will sit out the Buckeyes first game Saturday. It’s No. 5 Ohio State vs. Oregon State from Ohio Stadium — without Urban Meyer.

“It’s just tough to find to find some weaknesses,” Smith said. “They’ve got a stockpile of athletes, playmakers at running back and receiver. There’s not a flaw that I’ve been able to see in six, seven months of (watching) tape.”

It may not matter that Meyer is absent, considering the Buckeyes, considered a national contender by some, are 38-point favorites Saturday. If anything, players say the Meyer distraction serves as motivation.
“I think we are very angry,” receiver Parris Campbell said. “Just with all of the adversity that we have gone through, everything that has happened in the past, you know, us not having our head coach, us being a man down, I think there are a lot of variables going into it.”
Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be in charge with Meyer absent on Saturday.
Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith doesn’t think Meyer’s absence will matter. The Buckeyes, he said, are loaded with talent and ranked No. 5 for a reason.
Dwayne Haskins came into the Michigan game for Ohio State last season and got a win. Now, the job is his without question. He’s a “pro-style quarterback with a rifle arm,” according to the AP, who could turn the Buckeyes into a national contender if he plays like he did against Michigan.
